Frequently Asked Questions

Are you open on holidays?

While the kennel operates every day of the year, we are closed for check-ins/outs and tours on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Years’ Day. Don’t worry. Your fur family will receive the same excellent care, whether it be play time or scheduled grooming during their stay. We reserve the right to charge a premium during holidays.

What is the best way to contact you?

While we do have a telephone, it is best to email or contact us via Facebook Messenger if you have any general questions. We try to respond to all emails within one hour of receiving them. If you are looking for availability, please use our online reservation system.

Can I take a tour?

Certainly, but visitors can be disruptive to our guests’ routines, so we ask that you call to book a time. We schedule up to three tours a day during the afternoons at 1:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. on any day except Wednesday.

Do I have to make a reservation?

While there are days that we may have openings, we cannot guarantee you a spot unless you use our online reservation system, pay your deposit, and receive a confirmation to your request.

Does my dog have to be spayed or neutered?

No, but a dog that is not spayed or neutered can be aggressive or have a disruptive effect on other dogs. While we can accommodate you, we need to know ahead of time, to reduce the risk of any issue arising from an encounter. Without proof of sociability, any dog over the age of 8 months will automatically require privacy. We cannot have guests who are actively in heat.

Does my dog have to be vaccinated?

We require current proof of vaccinations for Rabies and DHPP. All vaccinations must be administered at least fourteen days before check in. Please have your veterinarian email your vaccination records to info@dogboardingkennels.ca to save time. Please understand that we will refuse any dog that cannot supply these records in advance.

Does my dog need Bordetella Vaccine?

No. We do not require Bordetella Vaccine for kennel cough. If you choose to get the vaccine, it must be administered at least 14 days before check-in like others vaccinations.

Do you offer cage-free boarding?

We believe that every animal should be treated with the utmost respect. That’s why all of our rooms are cage free and offer an indoor/outdoor experience for your dog.

Do you exercise my dog?

It is our belief that a well-exercised dog includes time in our off-leash run area. We get our guests out to our yard five times a day and aim for an hour to an hour and a half of play time per day. We have multiple yards so we can accomodate both our social guests as well as those who opt for privacy.

What is an Emergency Contact and Why do I need one?

Emergencies happen. Whether it’s a sick or injured dog, an outbreak of Kennel Cough, a delayed flight, or a female dog in heat. We require every guest to have an emergency contact who can come on short notice to retrieve your pet within 5 hours of a phone call. Sorry, the emergency contact is required, even if you are only down the road. Dealing with your contact before you leave on vacation is the best way to keep your pet safe.

Do you offer Daycare?

Yes, we offer daycare from Monday to Friday. Sorry, daycare isn’t available on the weekend.

Do you have a minimum booking?

Yes, but just for the weekends and Holidays. There is a two night minimum for weekends. This means, you can check in Friday morning and check out Sunday morning or you can check in Saturday morning and check out Monday morning as a minimum. You may choose to check out early, but the minimum weekend fee will apply. Holidays have a similar three night minimum and Christmas is four nights.

How do you ensure my dog's safety?

Because your dog is in its own suite, it will only have controlled contact with other dogs. That said, we take particular care during walks and off-leash time to ensure that your animals are safe. This is why it is so essential for you to be fully honest when describing the social skills of your dogs. This allows us to match dogs with the suitable temperament. If your dog exhibits aggressive or compulsive behaviours that may lead to a fight, then we will place your dog on privacy for the safety of all our guests. There is a day cost associated with privacy found on our services page.

I have two dogs, can they stay together?

Absolutely. All of our suites can comfortably house multiple dogs so your whole pack will have great stay. If your dogs are of different sizes, you may need to choose between privacy and having different rooms so they can socialize separately.

What's your cancellation and deposit policy?

Of course, we understand when plans change, but we end up turning business away. Non-refundable deposits are required within 48 hours of a booking request or the booking will be vacated. Deposits are 25% of your booking or two nights; whichever is greater. (Bookings of less than two nights will have a deposit of the full amount of the booking.) If you reschedule your booking at least three weeks in advance, we can reschedule the entire booking, including the deposit. (Sorry, but rescheduling is not available for Christmas bookings.)

Will my dog require a trial day?

All guests staying more than two nights who haven’t stayed with us within the previous 12 months may require a trial day of daycare to ensure they are comfortable with our staff and process. If your trial day is scheduled within 2 weeks of creating the booking, then our assessment will determine refund eligibility for the deposit on your longer stay. Refundability requires you to attend your trial day and is at our descretion should we feel we cannot serve you appropriately. Please understand that cancelling your trial day is not a reason for refunding your deposit.

Is it true that I shouldn't go to dog parks before coming?

Kennel cough and other diseases are often spread at dog parks. Additionally, these diseases can often be transmissible even when a dog isn’t symptomatic. That means a dog can come in and pass it to others and we may never know they had it. That’s why we require our guests to abstain from dog parks , other boarding facilities, and vet clinics for at least fourteen days before checking in.

What if I cut my stay short?

Like cancellations, we understand if things don’t go as planned. Unfortunately, even with a cancellation list, it’s difficult to fill rooms on short notice, especially during peak periods. If you have to change your booking within three weeks of check-in, then we will charge actual plus three days. If you adjust your booking after check-in then the full amount is required.

What method of payments do you require?

We currently take, cash, Debit, Visa, Mastercard, and e-transfer. Sorry, we cannot accept cheques at this time. No dog can leave the facility without first being paid for. While you are not required to pay with credit card, we do require a valid credit card be left on file during your pet’s stay.

What are your hours?

Our open times for check-ins and checkouts are:

Monday to Friday

8:00 to 10:00 a.m.
4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Saturday

8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Sunday

8:00 to 9:00 a.m. for checkouts

9:00 to 10:00 a.m. for checkins

4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

For $20, we do offer a non-standard check-in/out. This requires previous authorization for an agreed upon time. Please don’t expect us to wait in the lobby when we should be playing in the yard with your dogs.

Should I bring my dog's toys and bed?

While we do have an array of toys and sufficient beds for all the suites, we encourage you to bring anything you think will make your dog more comfortable during their stay. We apologize in advance as any dog beds must be small and machine washable.

Do you supply dog food?

Yes. While we can provide food if you forget or run out, we highly recommend that you provide the same food that your dog eats at home. We can accomodate any form of pre-prepared food, including raw. Please note, we cannot cook food.

Do you give medications?

We can administer simple medication without prior consulation, but suggest you call to discuss options.

What if my dog isn’t social?

That’s okay. We won’t penalize a dog who isn’t social. We offer a privacy option that will exercise your dog just the same as our other guests. This service costs $30 per day. If your dog is a fence fighter and requires full privacy, we can offer a double privacy so they do not interact or see any other dogs during their stay. This service is equivalent to 2 privacy services.
